ANATA NO TABI

IN JAPANESE, THE MEANING OF THE TITLE OF THIS PIECE IS "FOR YOUR JOURNEY". IT IS A LIDDED BOX WHICH HAS BEEN DESIGNED BASED UPON THE ANCIENT CHINESE TRADITION OF ENTOMBING THE "TING" WHICH ARE CONTAINERS OF FOOD FOR THE SPIRIT OF THE DEAD TO USE ALONG THEIR PATH TO INFINITY. THE OBJECT USED FOR THE HANDLE WAS FOUND ALONG THE BEACHES OF THE ALBANY BULB IN THE BAY AREA OF CALIFORNIA AND HAS BEEN INCISED OR NOTCHED TO INDICATE THE NUMBER OF LIVES LIVED AT THIS CREATION.

THIS PIECE WAS PURCHASED DURING THE 2011 ART IN THE PEARL FESTIVAL IN PORTLAND, OREGON.



KUNDALINI - VIEW ONE

Cast in earth tones with bronze infused concrete, this little vessel represents the force of Kundalini embodied as an urn or reliquary with oil lamp. The path of the life force etched on the front surface of the piece, rises from the depths of the chamber to escape at its final destination in flame. The interior chambers are lined in solid copper. The top is a wide ring of copper surrounding an iron square with a bronze wick holder. The urn sits on four iron 'feet' approximately 1/2" high. The square and round forms are symbols of both Yin and Yang. Dimensions are: 7 1/4" High 3" Square Interior Chamber is 1 1/2" Diameter x 2 3/8" Deep
